Australia retained the Ashes on English soil over the summer of 2023 in controversial but unforgettable fashion, with a series that had some brilliant moments.

England would come away feeling they were beaten harshly but also that they can be positive for the future under the leadership of Brendon McCullum.

Going 2-0 down was not the start England had hoped for. With controversial moments such as Carey stumping Bairstow when he believed the ball was dead.

The comeback seemed on though when England secured a three wicket vicotry at Headingley, before rain typically stopped any hopes at Emirates Old Trafford. A frustrating end to the series but plenty of positives to take.
