Chelsea Flower Show
The Chelsea Flower Show has been hosted in the grounds of the Royal Hospital, Chelsea for the last 108 years. The event celebrated its 100 years anniversary in 2013 with a memorable week.
The CFS is a British institution and has been a stalwart of the British Hospitality Calendar for the last 30 years.
The show has undergone radical changes throughout its history for example in the 1950s the individual show tents were replaces by a single marquee structure. The Marquee covered 1.5 hectares and was supported by 278 posts making it the largest structure of its kind spending years in the Guinness Book of Records as the Worlds largest tent.
The 60s saw a shift from the rock garden to the shrub and tree which was the style capturing the public’s affection. The Orchid and the Bonsai tree were also stars of the show.
Throughout the 2000s the show and its gardeners became more daring. James May created a garden entirely out of Plasticine. Today the Chelsea Flower Show retains its status as the premier event in horticulture.
