2021/22 Arsenal v Brentford

Arsenal FC

Arsenal is one of the biggest football clubs in London and the Emirates Stadium holds over 60,000 spectators. The Gunners have a rich history in the English game with multiple league titles and FA Cups, with the club holding a strong following around the world.

Arsenal are the most decorated English team in relation to FA Cups, having secured 14 in total, two more than Manchester United‘s 12. Their most recent victory came in 2020 against Chelsea, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scoring two goals to secure a famous 2-1 victory, although unfortunately this match was behind closed doors at Wembley.

Arsenal haven’t had as much success recently in the Premier League, having last won the main prize in England in 2004. That team managed by Arsene Wenger boasted superstars such as Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Robert Pires and Freddie Ljungberg who played a brand of attacking football that was almost impossible to stop.

One of Arsenal’s greatest achievements was going unbeaten in the league for an entire season, with the total amount of games standing at 49. The team showed an outstanding resilience with many closely fought draws and narrow wins that illustrated their immense character.

Where are the team now?

Arsenal have dropped off the pace in recent years and found themselves out of the European places in 2021, finishing 8th. Mikel Arteta inherited a squad that wasn’t up for challenging for champions league places and so far he hasn’t managed to turn those fortunes around.

The emerging stars of the team have come from their youth set up, including Englishmen Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith-Rowe who showed courage throughout the previous season to push Arsenal as high as possible.
