Product Description

2021/22 Tottenham v Southampton

Tottenham have been a prominent team in the Premier League for a number of years and the North London club has a fantastic history in English football. Formed in 1882, Spurs hold a couple of fascinating records, including the only non-league team to ever win the FA Cup in 1901 and the first team in the 20th century to win the league and cup double in 1961. In total, Spurs have won two league titles, eight FA Cups, four league cups, seven FA Community Shields, one European Cup Winners Cup and two UEFA Cups.

Spurs have made a significant development over the last couple of years which is the build of their brand new stadium, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Originally Tottenham were at White Hart Lane from 1899 to 2017 with a capacity of 36,284, but there was little room for development and commercial progress that chairman Daniel Levy wanted. As the stadium was being built in the same area of North London, Spurs played almost two seasons at Wembley Stadium before the new stadium launched on April 3 2019.

Their enormous brand new 62,303 seater stadium won the 2020 award for best sports venue of the year, due to setting the benchmark for the fan experience in European football. “The Populous-designed venue has a fully retractable playing surface, is the first purpose-built home for the NFL in Europe and has been designed to deliver an outstanding matchday atmosphere for both sports and entertainment.

“With uninterrupted sight lines and spectators closer to the pitch than at any comparable ground in the UK, the steep stands create a tighter, more compact stadium bowl.

“Fan spaces include the five-story atrium in the South Stand with food stalls, a microbrewery and a 65-metre bar – the longest in Europe.

“Whilst the facilities and fit-out are impressive in themselves, it is the performance of the venue as a business and as a fan destination that stands out.”

Where are the team now?

The first two full seasons at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium have been somewhat disappointing, especially after an incredible performance in the Champions League in the 2018/19 season, missing out on the main prize to Liverpool in the final.

Since then they have finished 6th and 7th, their worst league performances in 6 seasons and under Jose Mourinho, the team never progressed the way the Spurs fans would have expected. Combined with the unfortunate covid-19 situation for fan attendance, it feels like there is a lot more to come under the lights at the beautiful Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Harry Kane has been the leader of the Tottenham team for many years now. Career highlights include becoming captain and being the clubs top goalscorer for 7 seasons in a row.
