England v Pakistan ODI, Edgbaston

ODI Form

England v Pakistan ODI, Edgbaston – The third match of this one day international series will be held at Edgbaston as Pakistan visit England for the second consecutive year, but the first set of one day internationals in the UK for two years. In 2019 England managed a dominant 4-0 victory in a 5 match series against Pakistan with England scoring over 340 in all four of their victories, the most thrilling coming at Trent Bridge with a 3 ball, 3 wicket triumph.

Jason Roy was voted the player of that series as England had ideal preparation for what turned out to be one of the nations finest moments in cricket, beating New Zealand in an epic World Cup final a couple of months later. In the World Cup Pakistan performed admirably, finishing just shy of the 4th semi-final place on net run rate which included a 14 run victory in the group stages of the tournament. Since then in ODIs, they have beaten Sri Lanka 2-0 at home before covid-19 disrupted their series in Netherlands in 2020.

England have been far more active since the World Cup and have managed to play some thrilling series behind closed doors in 2020. Eoin Morgan has continued to captain the team but the results haven’t necessarily reflected the star-studded line up’s capabilities. England drew 1-1 out in South Africa at the start of 2020, with Quinton de Kock posting a century to successfully chase down a record total in Newlands in the final contest. In August, Ireland caused a major upset in the 3rd and final ODI, chasing down 328 in Southampton to send the team back home with a shock win, albeit a 2-1 series defeat. And finally England come off the back of a enthralling battle with Australia, losing 2-1 against their rivals with some close fought encounters that included a stunning partnership of 212 from Glenn Maxwell and Alex Carey to win the decider in Manchester.
