Product Description

2021 Guinness Six Nations Scotland v Ireland

2021 Guinness Six Nations Scotland v Ireland – The tournament sees Scotland welcome Ireland to BT Murrayfield. The penultimate match of the tournament. Ireland and Scotland have played each other in 136 matches, Ireland winning 65 times, Scotland winning 66 times and five matches drawn. Since 1989, the teams have competed for the Centenary Quaich during the Six Nations Championship.

Scotland v Ireland, event history

The 2017 Six Nations Championship saw Scotland beat Ireland at Murrayfield. A 27-22 upset. Since then Ireland have won three times, including in the 2020 Guinness Six Nations where the Irish ran out 19-12 winners at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

On 50 minutes, Stuart Hogg (who played outstandingly well despite this howler) went to score a try unopposed, but managed to lose control over the line. A disallowed try. Scotland also missed chances to score other tries.

Scotland’s Head Coach Gregor Townsend said after the match “I’m proud of the performance, we should have put more points on the board but I’m not really frustrated by it. There’s a lot to be encouraged about. I have to credit the Ireland defence, however we didn’t take the opportunities that were there. I thought Adam Hastings played well and we looked good when we had ball.”

Fly half & Captain Jonny Sexton scored all Ireland’s points and Head Coach Andy Farrell was full of praise for his side: That was a proper test match and I’m happy we came out with the Win. Jonny played well as the new captain, an outstanding performance. However, there’s always things to work on as a team and our decision making wasn’t great at times. I asked the team to stand for something this week and they stood for grit. That last five minutes of defence said a lot about them.”
