ODI Form
2022 England v India ODI, Old Trafford – We are delighted to offer premium corporate hospitality for England v India at Edgbaston. England have come off the back of 6 straight wins in the summer of 2021, beating Sri Lanka 3-0 and Pakistan 3-0, despite covid-19 causing issues with selections. The standout match of the six was the final ODI in Birmingham as Pakistan set a monster target of 331 runs. But England, impressively led by James Vince with the bat, managed to claim the victory with 12 balls left to spare.
England however were not so successful away to India in January 2021, losing a toughly fought series 2-1. The first two matches were relatively one-sided as India claimed victory in the first match, with England fighting back to claim the second match, chasing down 336 with 39 balls remaining. The decider was tense, with India scoring 329 runs to open the contest. Pant, Pandya and Dhawan all managed to score about 50 with pacy bowler Mark Wood taking three wickets off 4.85 an over.
Player of the Match Sam Curran did his best to lead England to glory, but his score of 95 not out was just not enough as England ran out of balls, ending on 322 and just 8 runs short of victory.
England have been far more active since the World Cup and have managed to play some thrilling series behind closed doors in 2020. Eoin Morgan has continued to captain the team but the results haven’t necessarily reflected the star-studded line up’s capabilities. England drew 1-1 out in South Africa at the start of 2020, with Quinton de Kock posting a century to successfully chase down a record total in Newlands in the final contest. In August, Ireland caused a major upset in the 3rd and final ODI, chasing down 328 in Southampton to send the team back home with a shock win, albeit a 2-1 series defeat. And finally England come off the back of a enthralling battle with Australia, losing 2-1 against their rivals with some close fought encounters that included a stunning partnership of 212 from Glenn Maxwell and Alex Carey to win the decider in Manchester.
