2021 British and Irish Lions v Japan

The much anticipated 2021 Lions Tour starts in Scotland as Japan come to BT Murrayfield, before the Lions head off to South Africa.

Having beaten Australia 2-1 in 2013 and drawing with New Zealand in 2017 after an incredible 15-15 last match tie, the Lions visit South Africa for the first time since 2009. In that series, the Lions lost 2-1 so they’ll be excited and desperate to come away with a victory on tour.

2021 British and Irish Lions v Japan

A British and Irish Lions Test is an event that the majority of British rugby fans never get the chance to see live. However there’s a great possibility in 2021 to tick it off the bucket list as The Vodafone Lions 1888 Cup match will give supporters a fantastic opportunity to see the worlds best talent, right here in Britain.

Japan are the visitors to Murrayfield to play their first ever match against the Lions and Jamie Joseph, the head coach of Japan called it “a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our players, and we can’t wait for it to come”. After making it to the quarter final stages in the 2019 World Cup, Japan continue to impress on the big stage and have rightfully earnt their place in history as an opponent of the Lions.

Head Coach of the Lions Warren Gatland has aired his delight at playing Japan and is well aware of the threat they pose, providing them a tough challenge in preparation for the Springboks.
“We saw Japan play some excellent rugby during the World Cup and they will come to Edinburgh fully-motivated to win,” said Gatland. “They are a talented side who play high-tempo rugby, so it’ll be a good challenge for us ahead of the Tour, and a chance for the match day squad to put their hands up for Test selection.”

Fortunately you can watch the match with a premium hospitality package to make the most of this rare opportunity. The summer of 2021 is looking mesmerising for sport and this cracking fixture on the Saturday 26 June only adds to the calendar of events we have available for you.
