The Hundred is the innovative new short format cricket competition commissioned by the ECB to generate and sustain the excitement which currently surrounds England cricket after the success of the ICC Cricket World Cup. The venue for the final is confirmed. The Hundred Lord’s.

This new innovative game is positioned to be inclusive, aimed at the younger generation of non- cricketers aiming to inspire the next Ben Stokes or Jofra Archer to take up this global game. This is highlighted in two ways, firstly the tournament will be played throughout August, with the (UK summer holidays) to allow the greatest amount of families to attend and secondly will be free to air on the BBC making the new competition accessible to those who are unable to attend live games.
The squads for The Hundred were filled through a draft. As to be expected Players with proven track records were up early in the draw. Rashid Khan of Afghanistan was the No.1 pick for the Trent Rockets, Southern Brave went with the West Indian power house Andre Russell, The Welsh Fire have opted for two Aussies in Mitchell Starc and Steve Smith. Other notable picks are Jos Buttler to Manchester Originals, Glenn Maxwell to London Spirit and Sunil Narine to the Oval Invincible’s. We look forward to the 2022 draft!
Some of the biggest names to miss out on the The-Hundred draft was Chris Gayle, and with players not eligible to be selected if they failed to make their allotted price point, the 37-year-old will be absent from the competition along with international pacemen Lasith Malinga and Kagiso Rabada.
