2022 Formula 1 Season

We are delighted to offer premium Formula 1 Paddock Club hospitality for the 2022 season, one of the most eagerly anticipated years which includes a 23 race calendar. 2022 will mark a new era of Formula 1 as the specifications have changed to promote overtaking and a fairer fight between the 10 teams competing.

We’re in a golden era of Formula 1 with Lewis Hamilton continuing to compete at the highest level and former World Champions Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso leading their respective teams to newer heights. But it’s the incredible, new emerging talent that has added real depth to the line-up, none more so than Max Verstappen who has amassed a huge number of fans around the world, with Dutch orange waves clear to see. Charl Leclerc, Carlos Sainz Jr, Lando Norris and George Russell are just a few names to mention as potential World Champions in the future.

The current teams on the grid are:

  • Mercedes
  • Red Bull
  • Ferrari
  • Mclaren
  • Alpine Racing
  • AlphaTauri
  • Williams
  • Haas
  • Alfa Romeo
  • Aston Martin

2022 Season Preview

The 2022 season gets underway on Friday 18 March and will consist of 23 races, the highest in the sports history. With a new specification of car for 2022, expect the grid to be mixed up and more unpredictable results as usual as teams get to grips with their new cars. The Miami Grand Prix will be the only new race on the calendar, with Saudi Arabia Grand Prix entering it’s second year.

There’s been a couple of significant moves in the drivers line-up, with George Russell taking the huge step up from Williams to Mercedes, demoting Valtteri Bottas who has since joined Alfa Romeo. Bottas has replaced the retiring Kimi Raikkonen, whilst Giovinazzi has left Alfa Romeo to be replaced by Chinese 22-year-old Guanyu Zhou, who impressed in F2 in 2021.

Max Verstappen surges to the front of the World Championship

Max Verstappen wins Monaco Grand Prix

Uneventful for the fans but hugely significant in the Drivers and Constructors Championship, the 2021 Monaco Grand Prix may have just played a pivotal role in Max Verstappen’s F1 Career.

After Charles Leclerc unfortunately couldn’t sit on the grid in pole position due to his damaged gearbox in qualifying, Verstappen led from the front and cruised to an easy victory in Monaco, his first win at the historic circuit. But what happened behind would have arguably given him the widest smile as Mercedes had one of their worst weekends in recent memory.

Lewis Hamilton qualified in 7th place for Mercedes and never showed any pace to trouble his rivals. Having spent the first stint behind Pierre Gasly in the AlphaTauri, Lewis and the team chose the undercut to try and force his way up the field but his first lap on fresh tyres wasn’t enough to secure the overtake. Gasly reacted, stayed ahead and with overtaking so difficult at the Monaco, it was the end of his challenge for major points.

Valtteri Bottas sat behind Verstappen on the grid and in the race struggled with grip with Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz Jr beginning to close the gap in the first stint. Bottas’ routine pit stop ended in disaster though as the right-front wheelgun machined away the thread of the stub axle so the mechanics couldn’t remove the wheel, forcing the Finn to retire.

Sainz then finished second, comfortably Ferrari’s most promising performance of the season whilst Lando Norris continued with his excellent form and once again justified his new Mclaren contract with another podium. Other notable performances came from Sebastian Vettel, finishing in 5th for the Aston Martin and Antonio Giovinazzi secured Alpha Romeo their first point of the season in 10th.

This is the most significant opportunity for Verstappen and Red Bull to truly compete with Mercedes to win a Championship and break the Merc stranglehold on formula one.

2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Baku never fails to disappoint. The new fans favourite of Formula 1 delivered another classic with the 4th version of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in producing drama up until the last minute. Max Verstappen was leading the race when a tyre blow up forced the Dutchman straight into the barriers and a certain 25 points completely lost. This enforced a red flag with just three laps remaining and Lewis Hamilton had a golden chance to take back the World Championship lead. Restarting in second, Hamilton jumped Perez into the first corner, only to mistakenly touch a brake related switch that gave the Mercedes man no front breaks and straight on into the run off area and back out in last place.

This game Sergio Perez his first win with Red Bull, followed by Seb Vettel in Aston Martin’s first ever podium finish and finally Pierre Gasly in the AlphaTauri continuing his strong form for the team. A memorable race but one that didn’t alter the battle between the two front runners in 2021.

Drivers Championship

Max Verstappen continues to hold the lead of the 2021 Formula One Drivers Championship by four points. Max sits on 105 points while Lewis Hamilton is on 101 points. Sergio Perez has jumped Lando Norris to third with his win at Azerbaijan, with 69 points. Full Drivers Championship is available here.
